Ben Marshall, managing partner

Ben Marshall

  • Ben Marshall is the Managing Partner and co-founder of Caird Investments. Prior to launching Caird, Ben served as Head of Liquid Credit at Triumph Financial / TBK Bank, where he founded and built the firm’s platform focused on a portfolio of TLBs, managing the securities portfolio, and private credit. His responsibilities included portfolio management, funding and liquidity, special situations evaluation, and capital markets advisory.

    Before Triumph, Ben spent a decade at Goldman Sachs in a variety of capital-committing and trading roles across leveraged finance, with a focus on broadly syndicated loans and distressed trading.

    He graduated as an Honors Scholar with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Virginia Tech, and proudly serves on the BASIS (Bonds and Securities Investing by Students) Advisory Board. Ben brings over 16 years of experience in credit markets, with a track record of building platforms and navigating complex investment environments.

Mike Schott

  • Michael Schott is a Partner and Head of Research at Caird. Prior to co-founding Caird, Michael was a Senior Vice President and Senior Analyst at Triumph Financial / TBK Bank, where he spent nearly six years focused on broadly syndicated loans, securities, direct lending, and special situations.

    Before Triumph, he was a Portfolio Manager and Senior Analyst at Eos Partners, a long-short credit hedge fund, specializing in performing, stressed, and distressed investments across the capital structure with a particular focus on broadly syndicated loans.

    Michael began his career in the Financial Advisory Services Group at Jefferies & Company, advising on restructurings, recapitalizations, and M&A transactions. He graduated with honors in Finance and Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.

  • Bryan Macktinger serves Caird Investments CFO, overseeing the firm’s financial management and operational infrastructure. He joined Caird in 2025 to help launch the firm. He brings more than two decades of experience in investment management, with deep expertise in fund operations, accounting, compliance, and investor reporting. Mr. Macktinger previously served as CFO and COO of Tålamod Asset Management for 12 years, where he led all aspects of operations, finance, and regulatory compliance for the firm and its managed funds. Since leaving Tålamod, he has held similar senior leadership roles at multiple investment managers, helping to build, scale, and manage their operational and financial platforms. Earlier in his career, he worked closely with the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas as a speechwriter and monetary policy researcher. He began his career in KPMG’s Transaction Services practice. Mr. Macktinger holds a BA from the University of Southern California and MBA and MPP (Public Policy) degrees from the University of Chicago.

Alex Harrell

  • Alex Harrell is a Vice President and Trader at Caird, where he is responsible for trade execution and portfolio management across the firm's broadly syndicated loan and securities portfolios.

    Alex brings over 15 years of experience in credit markets, with prior roles at GFI Group, Whitaker Securities, and LPS Partners spanning syndicated bank loans, CLO liabilities, and securities portfolios.

    Alex holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Finance from the University of Florida. He holds FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 licenses.

Matthew McLaughlin

  • Matthew McLaughlin is a Vice President at Caird Investment Partners. He focuses on sourcing, structuring, and executing investments across the credit markets, with experience spanning credit underwriting, private credit, and structured and tax credit finance.

    Prior to joining Caird, Matthew founded Rock Hill Ventures, where he advised on capital formation and financing strategies across commercial real estate, C&I, and community development transactions, working with sponsors and capital providers to structure and execute complex investments.

    Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President of Corporate Development at TransPecos Banks, where he worked closely with executive leadership and the board on strategic initiatives, balance sheet management, and credit oversight, with a focus on lending, capital allocation, and community development platforms.

    Matthew began his career at Fidelity Investments. He graduated from Southern Methodist University and attended the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking.

Tyler Roberts

  • Tyler Roberts is a Vice President at Caird, where he focuses on private credit, syndicated loans, and structured securities.

    Prior to joining Caird, Tyler spent over five years at Triumph Financial / TBK Bank as an Investment Analyst and Assistant Vice President, where he focused on financial modeling and investment oversight. Earlier, he served as an Investment Analyst at JAT Capital Partners in New York and Dallas, and as a TMT Analyst for the Ann Rife Cox Endowment Fund.

    Tyler earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the SMU Cox School of Business.

Kari Lowell

  • Kari Lowell is a Senior Associate at Caird, where she focuses on research, credit underwriting, securities, and capital markets. Her work spans investment research, capital allocation, and banking strategy.

    Prior to joining Caird, Kari was a Research Analyst at Triumph Financial / TBK Bank, where she supported the Liquid Credit team. Her responsibilities included credit analysis, financial modeling, and research in support of the firm's broadly syndicated term loan and securities portfolios.

    Before Triumph, Kari began her career as an Analyst at JP Morgan in Dallas, where she was part of a specialty lending team serving financial sponsors and their limited partners.

    Kari graduated from the Business Fellows Program at Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a minor in Biology. During her time at Baylor, she was a managing member of the student-run Large Cap Endowment portfolio, where she focused on public equity allocation in the healthcare sector.

Joseph Fratino

  • Joseph Fratino is a Senior Analyst at Caird, where he focuses on credit research and underwriting across the firm’s investment platform. Prior to joining Caird, Joseph was a Senior Consultant in the Restructuring and Corporate Finance practice at FTI Consulting, where he focused on financial modeling and advisory for complex reorganizations and distressed situations.

    Joseph earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting from the University of Colorado Boulder, where he graduated with Honors and Highest Distinction and was named the 2022 Outstanding Graduate of the Leeds School of Business, an honor recognizing the top student in the graduating class.
